Type Design Utilization

Type Design Utilization

Inspired by my German ancestry and the way that my peers see me, I designed a typeface that highlights the way that my peers see me, as goth– I am not really goth, I just like black. Hence the name of the typeface, Gothish (not to be confused with gothic typefaces). To showcase my typeface, I created a vinyl album playlist accompanied by a designed lyric book. I chose 8 metal songs that I was listening to at the time as content. Each song has 2 spreads dedicated to it: 1 spread for legible lyrics, and 1 spread for a designed spread that did not necessarily need to be legible. The second spread was to convey the emotion and sounds of the song.

Designer Research Archive

Designer Research Archive

After selecting a designer of my choice, I documented 20 projects from Jonathan Barnbrook\'s work in the format of a book. I chose 20 because he has so many that documenting them all would not have been feasible in the time I had to complete the project. I was inspired by Barnbrook\'s unconventional way of thinking/designing so I took a step outside of my comfort zone by giving myself limitations. One such limitation was the extreme top and bottom margins. This actually ended up being my favorite feature of my publication! I got to explore and improve upon my design skills and this made me fall in love with print design.

Recontextualizing a Collection

Recontextualizing a Collection

This is a documentation of my Pokemon card collection. The viewer can choose attributes (card type, region of origin, or rarity) that will filter which cards are shown. My audience for this collection is other amateur, non-competitive card collectors like myself. I designed my interface to be friendly and easy-to-use.

Lyric Video

Lyric Video

Using Paul Cauthen\'s song, Cocaine Country Dancing, I designed a lyric video for the first minute of the song. Only the first minute because it was a school assignment so time was a restraining factor. I enjoyed exploring AfterEffects and look forward to using it a bit more in the future.
