Complimentary Poster Set

Complimentary Poster Set

This project was an extension of the Object Study Posters. The objective of the poster series was tocreate two posters that would be displayed together and show two sides of a given theme or concept. The theme chosen explored the idea of how men and women are portrayed through different medias with the main focus being on advertisements from the 50’s and 60’s. The outcome of the project was two black and white posters, the left poster being the view of a man. The poster on the right was the view of a woman. The two posters were designed to contrast each other but also fit together as a cohesive set. This project stressed the importance of negative space. It also focused on the idea of the relationship between text and image.

Surrealist Card Game

Surrealist Card Game

Based on the idea of being either a “hero” or a “villain”, we were instructed to pick a non-fictional character. A character I thought that fit both classifications was, Walt Disney. Disney played a big part in most of our childhoods, and I wanted to pick a well known person who was also a controversial topic. We then used a surrealism game to create the content that would be placed on the deck of 12 cards. Each card was a different section of the game, which was created by Phillipe Audoin. The design of the cards is intended to look like a vintage tarot card to focus in on the dark past of Disney. The imagery was created to look like sketches from his original sketch books. The edges of the cards are worn out and the color is faded to represent the physical look of both his life and his sketch book from the years of usage. When viewing the deck as whole, the viewer should be able to learn about the life and character of Walt Disney. Inspiration was drawn from Walt’s past, the cards were inverted so that only small sections of the positive colors poked through the negative color. This project stressed the importance of continuity of a system and the strong relationship between text and imagery.

PSA Immersive Space

PSA Immersive Space

Sex Trafficking is a form of human trafficking where people are exploited for sex. About 600,000 to 800,000 men, women and children are trafficked every day. This Public Service Announcement was created to inform people of common locations where these abductions may occur and to understand how lack of awareness can lead to easy abductions. For this project, Morgan and I decided that we wanted to create a film. This was the first project I have worked on where filming and editing was the majority of the project. This project stressed the importance of working on a team, creating timelines, organization and research. I learned a lot about shooting the film, and how important it is to have test shoots and creating storyboards to ease into the final shoot days. The film was shot on an IPhone 13 and was edited in After Effects.

826 Morgantown Branding

826 Morgantown Branding

826 National is a network of youth tutoring and writing centers located around the United States. Every tutoring center possesses an individualized facade that not only enhances its allure but also serves as a consistent stream of income. After being assigned town to research, we were tasked with creating our own unique 826 store identity. Based in Morgantown, West Virginia, a store was created to introduce children to the mining industry without the perilous working conditions. The end result was, “Rush Mining Emporium.” A store that makes children feel like they’ve ‘stuck gold.’ Some of the products sold at this store are things that would make children excited such as,mystery presents, sticker packs, milk that you can drink out of the carton, and scratch off adventure maps. This project heavily focused on research and the ability to put that knowledge towards the branding process. It stressed the importance of organization, iteration, and revisions.

Object Study Posters

Attending concerts is an activity that my friends and I do frequently as a way to spend time together and enjoy something we all have in common. When tasked with picking an object to study, I believed my worn down concert shoes was the perfect object. A lot of research was conducted and the object was photographed. This created all the content necessary to make 20 different compositions that would communicate the essence of the object. Each composition was created to highlight the wear and tear of my Converse shoes and the messaging behind how the brand has been around so long. This project required a lot of research, so in turn it also require a lot of organization. It allowed for the understanding of type and image relationships. The constraints of black and white photos only, helped give the finished pieces a more clean look, whileforcing the viewer to focus on the details rather than the color.
