The Rebirth of Madame Carnation

The Rebirth of Madame Carnation

Madame Carnation has been killed by the flowers that possess her body. She awakens in a purgatory environment, a large garden inhabited by nature spirits representing flowers where one by one she discovers more about herself and how she understands and deals with her trauma. The flower spirits tell an allegorical tale of love, in all its forms, and the fear and understanding that comes with it. As I delve into her conversations about love in its many forms, her journey also serves as mine. Through this story, I gain a greater understanding and acceptance of my trauma and of life. I sincerely hope that Madame Carnation’s journey may be as healing for others as it has been for me.

Alternative Process Work

Alexa James and Jane Karweick are two photographers with a very experimental streak. Both have a passion for finding new ways to chemically produce an image, and their recent focus is on eco-friendly and recyclable methods. Through their work with anthotype, film soup with recycled old film, and handmade paper from paper waste, they have made a great first step into the world of eco-friendly photo work. At the moment, they are focused on working more in the dark room, experimenting with recent strides made in making plant-based chemistry while trying to make their own contributions to this research.
