A game ready character I sculpted, retopologized, textured, rigged, and lit. For this project I learned a bit about Advanced Skeleton, the Maya addon. Original concept by me as a companion piece to my cat creature bust. I had originally been given the prompt of a Character + Pet and I had thought it could be fun to switch the roles. Captain Hanes was tasked with investigating missing spaceships from Earth's orbital spaceways. Using a spaceship with a false distress call as bait, he and his crew waited to ambush any unregistered vehicles that attempt to take the drifting craft. Unfortunately, Hanes and his crew find themselves desperately unmatched. Putting up a valiant fight, but unable to hold off long enough for reinforcements, the enemy ship captures their space ship, the Scout 5. With a few galactic jumps, Hanes and his crew find themselves far from home and enslaved to traffickers. Hanes is forced to watch helpless as his screw is sold off to various beings of the universe, until he himself finds a similar fate. Sold to the Alien prince of Felivaxxion Empire, Ketosthan, Hanes finds himself in the predicament of being their royal pet. Will Captain Hanes forever be trapped and subjugated to the whims of Ketosthan? Or can Hanes convince this oversized cat to help him save his scattered crewmates and return to the safety of Earth?

I had a lot of fun with this project and learned some new things. This was my first attempt at hair cards, and I'm thrilled with how they came out. I definitely want to learn more about grooming hair because I struggled a little there, but for a first attempt, I'm more than happy with the final results. I based it on an original concept by Yana Glotova.

This is a bust of my original character who's a prince of an alien race of cats, his name is Ketosthan. When inventing the character race, I thought it would be fun to make a sphinx cat and hyena hybrid. While he ended up more cat-like, I do like the exaggerated hyena cat mix ears I gave him. My concept art wasn't originally intended to become a 3D model, but I enjoyed adapting my cartoony drawing style into a semi-realistic 3D art style. During the modeling process, I started in ZBrush and made my high poly mesh. Then afterward imported into Maya and retopologized it.

I had a lot of fun working on this Quetzalcoatl model and learned a lot about creating and using insert meshes. The model is not game-ready; it is set up for 3D printing utilizing vector painting. I might go back to this, replace the feathers with image planes, and learn how to build wings properly for rigging.
