This project is an explainer video on the female gaze in film. The concept was to flip the narrative. The Male Gaze is essentially the idea men see women as objects. So visually, the direction was to show the opposite (similar to what the female gaze does). The intent is to show women as powerful and independent with bright colors, bold type, and a sharp collage style. While also referencing film with the texture, video techniques, transitions, and sounds.
This project is a sponsored project in accordance with the Detroit Veteran’s Affairs Hospital. Our team of four: Including myself, Whitney Hockman, Ian Bishop, and Julian Dalat was tasked with rebranding their federal agency, which serves countless individuals. We approached the project with deep reverence for the VA\'s history and the veterans it serves, and we embarked on extensive research and consultation to identify the hospital\'s needs.
826 Alpena: By the Moon is a fictitious boutique and educational center in Alpena, Michigan, paying homage to the natural resources of North Eastern Michigan. Offering an array of locally inspired products, the store embraces the practice of gardening by the moon to optimize crop cultivation. This method leverages the moon\'s gravitational pull, which is thought to influence soil moisture like the rhythm of tides, promoting a more abundant harvest.
The goal was to create a lyric video that encapsulates the essence of the song. Upon hearing the psychedelic-infused indie folk track, \"Orange Blood\" by Mt Joy, I wanted to convey the euphoric sensation of driving around as the sun sets. I aimed to employ words as visual metaphors, maintaining a fluid and organic structure and imagery to convey joy. Additionally, textures and gradients were incorporated to evoke a subtle psychedelic ambiance.
