Love doesn’t just have to be for conscious creatures. I’ve spent many a summer day- itching to leave my stuffy apartment in place of somewhere greener- Belle Isle is that place. This publication serves not only to document the hidden “hipster” beaches of Belle Isle but also to tell the stories associated with them: from strange encounters to bodily injury, and lovers lost- this collection of images and stories told also serves a greater purpose; to explore the relationship us Detroiters have with a place that gives us so much to hope for on those hot summer days.

A Lack of Access Detroit has a severe lack of access. To food, employment, and most importantly in these half-vacant neighborhoods; computers and wifi. The GreenHouse(s) is a proposed network of self-contained micro-ecosystems that utilize the thousands of vacant homes left abandoned in Metro Detroit. By transforming these vacant spaces, we cultivate healthy food for the community, while also cultivating communities into self-sustaining enclaves that provide where, and what the city of Detroit does not.

Distill’d is a hybrid celebration of Detroit’s connection to American liquor legacy. Our event invites participants to tune for appearances by HowtoDrink, Anders Erickson, and Cocktail Chemistry; as well as our very own Tincture Lab, and Mixology School:ca 12 Hour-2 Day-Crash Course on the basics of bartending, no experience required. You might even walk away with decent drink. Maybe.
