826 Alpena

826 Alpena

826 Alpena: By the Moon, is a fictional store located in Alpena, Michigan, that honors the natural resources prevalent in North Eastern Michigan. The store sells goods associated with the area and uses the idea of gardening by the moon to efficiently harvest crops. My color system is reminiscent of nature with a brighter hue to induce a sense of playfulness, my type is inviting and homey, and it plays along a horizontal axis to communicate similarly to moon phases. Lastly, the imagery consists of patterns that symbolize the natural cycles of the moon in addition to fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

Orange Blood Lyric Video

Orange Blood Lyric Video

Orange Blood is a song by the indie folk band, Mt Joy. The song follows the singer and his girlfriend on an acid trip through the desert. In my lyric video, I wanted to show the euphoric experience of watching the sunset while driving, use the words as visual metaphors, and keep the text fluid and organic to show joy. Then, texture, and gradients are utilized to create a slightly psychedelic effect.

Medusa Card Set

Medusa Card Set

The goal was to create a symbolic system for a character that depicts the symbolism in twelve distinct parts. The challenge I encountered while researching my character was that there were multiple depictions of who Medusa was and whether she was a hero or a villain was up for debate. My solution was to explore the idea of Medusa being a feminist hero, with a flawed past. Medusa\'s story is twisted to make her seem like a villain, however in reality she is a victim of sexual assault and the patriarchy. The visual direction that I took for this project included using shapes and elements that worked cohesively yet had a purpose. This included the color pink and the box shape that held the main component on the card. Medusa was put in a box, she was seen as a villain because she turned people to stone, so at the beginning of the cards the element sits in the middle of the box, but as the cards go on the elements are breaking out of this box, and perpetuating the stereotype. The pink and the sporadic nature of the elements outside of the boxes are representative of Medusa’s iconic hair.
